Based on the Lagrangian formulation, we present a new Β¨ariational approach to study the influence of cross-phase modulation on solitonlike pulse switching in twin-core fiber couplers and birefringent fibers. For self-routing pulse switching we found an excellent agreement between our finite-dimensio
