โฆ Synopsis
A high-performance balancing system is described which is capable of reducing unbalance of gasbearing miniature expansion turbines to a level suitable for high-speed rotation in cryogenic refrigerators. Using non-contact electrical measurements based on a dynamic capacitive method, the rotating turbine shaft can be balanced to ~ 1 0 -5 g cm, corresponding to a displacement of the centre of gravity of < 0.01 pm.
