✦ Synopsis
Abstract
A dual‐band omni‐directional antenna that comprises two pairs of dipoles placed back‐to‐back and printed on a dielectric substrate is presented. A prototype is constructed and tested. The experimental results show that the 10‐dB return loss bandwidths (VSWR < 2.0) reach as much as 120 MHz at the lower band and 1750 MHz at the upper band. Moreover, the radiation patterns are almost omni‐directional in the azimuthal plane. Peak antenna gain is 1.45, 3.89, and 4.36 dBi at 2.4, 5.2, and 5.8 GHz, which indicates that the proposed antenna can be used as a dual‐band antenna for the wireless local area networks (WLAN) application. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
