โœฆ Synopsis

Various types of sex ratio distorter-double translocation heterozygotes were produced in Aedes aegypti and compared with respect to. their fertility and sex ratio distortion properties. One was selected for further study and it showed stable properties over successive tests, and approximately normal mating competitiveness. Releases of these distorter double heterozygotes into a cage population maintained under semi-natural conditions produced a high degree of suppression of the female population.

Two sex ratio distorter-translocation homozygotes were synthesized. In one case there was an enhanced level of sex ratio distortion and the distorter-single translocation heterozygotes did not exhibit uniform semi-sterility and pseudolinkage of marker genes, whereas in the other, fertility and pseud

Two pure translocation homozygote stocks, T1/T1 and T3/T3, were used to produce a double translocation heterozygote system designated T1/T3, employing T1/T1 as the male and T3/T3 as the female parent. The double heterozygote showed 73 % sterility when mated to wild females. Tests on mating competiti

Sex-ratio distortion has been investigated in males carrying the Y(M)-linked meiotic-drive gene D, from three different strains (Bozo, Caracas and Trinidad), paired with Chipei X-chromosomes highly sensitive to D. The effect of D was tested on its own and also associated with a 1-3 translocation (de
