✦ Synopsis
In this note we are presenting the results obtained on La2_~rXCu04_, for O<x< 1 .O, with particular emphasis on the x=0.4 compound. This compound which otherwise does not exhibit superconductivity shows a superconducting transition when the material is suitably incorporated with Ce in place of La or F in place of 0. Effective copper valence in all the samples has been experimentally determined which together with the ensuing oxygen content are found to provide a useful insight into the problem of disappearance and reappearance of superconductivity in the system. The study shows that the introduction of Ce, Pr and Fin higher Sr-eontent samples can lead to a "pair healing effect" instead of the commonly found "pair breaking effect".
