The pertinent chemical shift data are given in Table I.

As expected, an upfield shift of 1.99 ppm in the positions of the aromatic protons does occur in going from the uncomplexed to the complexed system. However, a similar comparison of the chemical shifts of H a and H b in both systems shows virtually no change in the chemical shifts of these protons in the two molecules.
