An alternating butadiene-propene copolymer was partially ct-brominated with N-bromosuccinimide; then reaction with 1,6-bis(bromomagnesium) hexane was carried out. The modified copolymer was degraded in a metathesis reaction with (E)-4-octene. The low molecular products were identified by means of ga

✦ Synopsis
Abstraet--A butadiene-dimethyldivinylsilane copolymer with 5.6 mol% dimethyldivinylsilane (MVS) was obtained with n-butyl-lithium as initiator. It was degraded by cross metathesis with (E)-4-oetene or (E)-3-hexene in the presence of the catalyst WC1JSn(CH3)4. The reaction mixtures were investigated by means of gas chromatography/mass spectrometry coupling. The degradation products contained 1,4-1inked butadiene (1,4B), 1,2-1inked butadiene (1,2B) and tetrafunetionaUy polymerized MVS.
