โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

The CO~2~ fraction of an anesthetized rat's breathing mixture was changed (from 0 to 10%) to attempt to change the brain microcirculation and observe these changes in diffusion measurements of the neural tissue. Brain apparent diffusion coefficients were measured to be (0.71 ยฑ 0.01) ร— 10^โˆ’1^ mm^2^/s before sacrifice and (0.39 ยฑ 0.01) ร— 10^โˆ’3^ mm^2^/s after sacrifice. Multiple diffusion components were observed, consistent with flowing material, but the extra components did not increase with increased CO~2~. It is proposed that the additional components may be due to extracellular, extravascular water such as CSF. ยฉ 1991 Academic Press, Inc.

## Abstract The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of Na^+^ was determined in live rat brain. The brain extracellularโ€toโ€intracellular Na^+^ content ratio is โˆผ8:2, which is the inverse of that for water in these spaces. Consequently, the ADC of Na^+^ is primarily affected by motion in the extrace

## Abstract We present T2โ€weighted and diffusionโ€weighted images of kainic acid lesions in the rat brain. Our observations show improved image contrast between edematous lesions and unaffected tissue using diffusionโ€weighted imaging. Furthermore, we show that the anisotropic intensity changes assoc
