The laser-photolysis-recombination-luminescence detection method was employed to measure the diffusion coefficients of atomic bromine in inert gaseous media. The measured values are 0.191,O. 102,0.208,0.07 19,O. I96 and 0.122 cm2/s for Nz, CF,, 02, SFs, CO and CO\*, respectively, at 1 atm and 300 K.
It is shown experimentally that, in stimulated Raman spectroscopy, electrostriction induced by the pump laser gives rise to a non-resonant signal detected on the probe laser. This phenomenon limits the detectivity of the experiment. A qualitative interpretation is given.
