β¦ Synopsis
The rate of diffractive open charm production in DIS at HERA probes the gluonic content of the pomeron. The measured cross section a(ep -+ e(D*Β±X)Y) is presented differentially as a function of observables exploring the dynamics of the process. The results are compared with a model based on a partonic pomeron as determined in a QCD analysis of the diffractive structure function, with perturbative QCD calculations of two gluon exchange and with a soft color interaction model.

The results on charm production at HERA are reviewed. The data are compared with next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD predictions. In photoproduction the measured differential cross sections are generally larger than the NLO calculations, in particu]ar in the forward (proton) direction. The

Diffractive neutral current deep inelastic scattering processes have been studied at HERA with the H1 and ZEUS experiments using several experimental techniques. The latest results, coming from the analysis of 1994 data, are presented and discussed here.
We see copious production of charmed hadrons in the early LHCb data. The status and plans for charm production studies at LHCb are discussed, and preliminary signals are shown.
