โœฆ Synopsis

Using KPNO helium 10830 A. synoptic charts of Carrington rotations 1716 through 1739, and by assembling a time sequence representing single latitude zone, rotational properties of coronal holes for five zones of latitudes ( +_ 10 ~ _+ 20 ~ + 40 ~ and _+ 40 ~ + 60 ~ have been examined. It seems that the rotation period of coronal holes is a function of latitude, thus reflecting differential rotation of coronal holes.

An interesting aspect of solar rotation is the fact that coronal holes seem to exhibit little or no differential rotation. We set out to investigate the question of whether or not the photospheric magnetic fields underlying coronal holes also exhibit reduced differential rotation. In order to accomp

A process is suggested by which a coronal structure (with underlying filament) may form between a polar crown structure and a low-latitude bipolar region. During the ascending phase of the solar cycle the identifying underlying filament should lie poleward and westward of the active region, but duri

The positions of X-ray coronal transients outside of active regions observed during Skylab were superposed on Ha synoptic charts and coronal hole boundaries for seven solar rotations. We confirmed a detailed spatial association between the transients and neutral lines. We found that most of the tran

It is argued that differential rotation of the photospheric magnetic fields will induce currents in the corona. The work done against surface magnetic stresses will increase the energy content of the coronal magnetic field. The electrical conductivities are high and the foot points of field lines mo
