The alkylation of (4,6-heptadien-3-one)-and (methyl 3,5-1aexadienoate)Fe(CO)3 (l and 2) were examined (0-42% de and 69-92% de respectively). Optically active (methyl 3,5-hexadienoate)Fe(CO) 3 (-)-2 was prepared by resolution of the corresponding carboxylic acid complex with 0t-methylbenzylamine.

β¦ Synopsis
Complexed cyclopropyl-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (9 DOPA) were synthesized by diazomethane cyclopropanation of the appropriate diene(tricarbonyl)iron complexes linked to azlactones. Opening of the oxazolone ring by treatment with MeOH and DMAP gave the corresponding methyl esters. Introduction of the Boc group, cleavage of the carbamate with hydrazine provided Boc-protected cyclopropylogs of DL-dihydroxyphenylalanine.

A new route to the stable (2-acylbutadiene) tricarbonyl iron complexes is described, based on the palladium catalyzed coupling between acid chlorides and 2-stannylated butadiene complexes . Conjugated dienes bearing an electron-withdrawing group in position 2 are very reactive derivatives which are
