β¦ Synopsis
The dielectric relaxation of acet,onitrile-water mixtures is measured at 298.15 I<. From the resulting complex permittivity spectra, two relaxation processes are found. The lowfrequency process is attributed to water molecules that reside in a micro-phase of relative11 stable clusters. The high-frequency process is attributed to both acet, onitrile and watrl molecules in a second micro-phase.
The divergence of the structure of the liquid, thus microhet, erogeneity, is at a maximum at mole fractions .r ,=0.6-0.7. This is close t,o the composition at which the acetonitrile-water mixture has an upper c,ritical demixing point. albeit at. much lower temperatures.
