## Abstract After feeding rats with small quantities of phytol for 4 days the synthesis of fatty acids and the oxidation of acetate in liver slices have been studied with the aid of 1 ‐^14^C labelled acetate. Phytol caused a marked increase in the oxidation of acetate and a reduced synthesis of fat
