✦ Synopsis
Over the last 5 years at the Children's Clinic of the University of Erlangen there have been performed approximately 400 pneumencephalographs and earotis-angiographs.
231 of the radio-opaque fillings were done on children with cerebral seizures. Approximately 20% of the pneumencephalographic studies were done on infants. 80O/o fell upon children of other age groups.
Since less then l~ of the seizures in childhood are due to tumorous growth the main purpose of pneumencephalographs would be to diagnose atrophic cerebral and pathological changes and abnormalities in developement.
The percentage of pathological pneumencephalograms in infants is 97~ i.e. much higher then the rest of the children in various other age groups with only approximately 60o/o of the findings being pathological.
45.3O/o of all children with pathological changes in their P.E.G. had normal neurological findings and showed the appropriate developement corresponding to their age level. 12.4~ of the children even had normal E.E.G.'s. Just 17.5~ of all the patients showed pathological changes upon being x-rayed alone without the help of any opaque substances.
