SAS, 3-p-aminoethyl-5-hydroxybenzo(b)thiophene, the sulfur analog of serotonin, has proved refractory to synthesis. The various steps in its preparation have been refined, and its preparation in overall yield of about 20 percent in an eight-step sequence from commercially available m-hydroxyacetophe
