β¦ Synopsis
This volume will focus on and emphasise the clinical relevance of diabetic nephropathy, a relatively common problem of diabetes. It affects about one in three patients with Type 1 diabetes, and left untreated can lead to a progressive decline in renal function, accompanied by retinopathy and arterial hypertension, which, in turn, leads to cardiovascular disease - a common cause of death in these patients. Diabetic Nephropathy will also provide the reader with a solid grounding in current basic and clinical research.

Diabetic nephropathy is a major complication of diabetes and one of the major causes of endstage renal failure. As diabetes and its complications are treated by general practitioners, internists and many specialists, the treatment is often fragmented. In the past few years, several coordinated thera

Diabetes, when untreated, leads to damage to several organs within the body, particularly the kidneys. This damage may also go undetected for several years, until the later stages of kidney failure are reached, with a need for kidney replacement therapy - either dialysis or transplantation. Such pro
