Abstract
Deuterium isotope effects on the ^13^C and ^15^N nuclear shieldings of o‐hydroxyazo compounds are described. Both the direct and the equilibrium contributions were determined. Large direct deuterium isotope effects on ^15^N nuclear shieldings for ^1^Δ, ^2^Δ and ^4^Δ and negative Δ^1^J(^15^NH) [D] values were observed. Isotope effects on ^15^N nuclear shieldings, because of their magnitudes, are shown to be very useful in determining changes in the azo–hydrazone equilibrium. Isotope effects on ^13^C nuclear shieldings are smaller, but the effects observed at the carbon resonances of the N‐phenyl ring are likewise very useful in determining the shift in the equilibrium. Deuterium substitution leads in all cases to a shift in the equilibrium so that the content of the predominant form of the protio compound is increased.

## Abstract The ^34^S isotope effect on the chemical shift of P^III^ nuclei in P(SR)~3~ esters [R = Et, (C~12~H~25~)~n~, Ph] is close to 20.6 ppb per P^III^^34^S bond, i.e. 3–4 times larger than for thiolo sulphur atoms in S = P(SR)~3~ or O = P(SR)~3~. A similar behaviour is noted for the P(S)~3
Over 100 isotope effects on "C chemical shifts were determined in a series of deuteriated cis-stilbene isotopomers. The magnitude and sign of these effects depend on the position and the number of deuterium atoms in the molecule. The variations in two-and three-bond effects were rationalized by ste
Novel multidimensional NMR pulse sequences for measurement of the three- and four-bond amide deuterium isotope effect on the chemical shifts of 13Cbeta in proteins are presented. The sequences result in editing into two subspectra of a heteronuclear triple resonance spectrum ¿omega(N), omega(Cbeta),
