An on-lme column preconcentration method 1s de-bed for the determmatlon of rhenmm m sea water by mductlvely coupled plasma mass spectrometry Two dlmenslons of amon-exchange resin (Dowex l-X8) mmlcolumn (7 mm X 2 mm 1 d and 14 mm X 2 mm I d ) were used for the quantitative preconcentratlon of rhenium m sea water

The concentrated rhenmm was eluted from the column with mtruz acid A sunple cahbratlon techmque Hrlth lutehum as internal standard and also isotope dllutlon were used for the detemunatlon of rhemum m sea water Ennchment factors of 38-or lOl-fold were obtamed usmg lO-or 50-ml sea-water samples, respectively, and the relative standard devlattons for rephcate measurements (n = 3) were 2 62% for natural sea water and 0 34% for synthettc sea water The detectton hnnts after on-hne preconcentratlon of 10 and 50 ml of sea water were 0 27 and 0 1 pg ml-', respectwely Almost no contammatlon blank signal or matnw mterferences were observed
