✦ Synopsis

Abstract

In remote sensing and the evaluation of radio wave propagation, there has recently been interest in highly accurate estimation methods with high resolution, including polarization information. In the superresolution method, which realizes a high resolution that cannot be achieved by the Fourier transform method, several reports have been presented on the use of polarization information. This paper considers polarization‐averaging correlation reduction preprocessing, which is one of the methods of utilizing polarization data in the superresolution method. The correlation reduction performance when combined with SSP and MSSP is examined from theoretical and quantitative standpoints. It is shown by computer simulation that the MSSP method combined with polarization averaging can effectively reduce correlation by utilizing polarization, and that it achieves a higher estimation accuracy than other methods in propagation estimation with a smaller number of snapshots. © 2001 Scripta Technica, Electron Comm Jpn Pt 2, 84(7): 1–9, 2001
