✦ Synopsis


A hquld chromatographlc method for the detectron of eight sulphonanude drugs (sulphadtazme, -thlaxole, -meraxme, -meth&e, dumdme, -methoxyWndazme, -doxme and -methoxazole) and the sulphone dapsone m mdk was developed The method IS based on a sohd-phase extractlon on cation-exchange cohmms usmg phosphonc acid, acetomtnle and methanol for elutlon Analyst was performed after evaporatron (concentration 5 1) with a Superspher RP-18 column The mobde phase was an IsocTatic nuxture of methanol, acetomtnle and sodmm acetate and detaon was performed at 275 nm The recovery at the 25 pg kg-' level was 62-85%, the repeatabtity at the 25 pg kg-' was 169-10 35% and the sensltlvlty was 5 pg kg-', with the excepnon of sulphadlaxme, -dnmdme and -methoxazole (10 pg kg-') Thts method fulfils the requirements of EEC regulation 675/92 and the US FDA "safe level" Out of 74 sulpha-susplclous raw nulk samples (nucrobml receptor assay), dapsone was detected 111 four samples and sulphadmndme m rune samples In no case was the EEC hnut of 100 pg kg-' exceeded One sample contamed more than 25 pg kg-' of dapsone Kkywords Liquid chromatography, Dapsone, Mdk, Sohd-phase extraction, Sulphonanudes
