The titled azuleno-annulenone was synthesized and in strong acid its protonated cationic species was generated, which is the first 18-pi electron diatropic condensed bridged annulene as shown in its 'H-NMR spectrum. Although the syntheses and properties of the condensed 18-pi electron systems such
