✦ Synopsis
Abstract
An analytical HPLC method using CHIREX (S)‐LEU/(S)‐α‐NEA column was developed for the determination of the enantiomeric excesses of N‐protected (S)‐3‐hydroxyglutarimides. Using this method, detailed studies on the base‐promoted ring‐expansion reaction of the amidolactones, derived from l‐glutamic acid, were undertaken. © 2005 Wiley‐Liss, Inc. ## Abstract By taking advantage of the __N__,__N__‐diisopropylcarbamoyl moiety as a versatile __ortho__‐directing lithiation group, the preparation of 4,6‐dichloro‐ and 4,6‐difluorophthalides, starting from the corresponding 3,5‐dihalo‐__N__,__N__‐diisopropylbenzamides, is described here. The role
