β¦ Synopsis
Using photometric phase-contrast microscopy it was possible to discern the number of lammeUae in thin walls of artificial phospholipid-vesicles. By comparing the contrast of spheres and elongated tubes with same diameters we could analyse the dependence of the contrast on both principal curvatures. The characteristics of the intensity distribution of the light in the image plane of the phase-contrast microscope is discussed for thin hollow phase objects.
