## Abstract 1‐(5‐uracilylmethyl)pyridinium salts react with 9, 10‐dihydrophenanthridine, Hantzsch ester or thiols (RSH, R = p‐nitrobenzyl, t‐butyl) to form thymine derivatives. The mechanisms of the reactions are discussed.
