β¦ Synopsis
The kinetics of the decomposition process of .%Ti single crystals at 853 K are studied by high resolutiorl X-ray diffractometry, conventional transmission electron microscopy, microhardness measurements and compression tests. The kinetics of the first 62.5 h after quenching cannot be interpreted in a simple way. Concentration waves along (100), growing in amplitude and wavelength, are observed after aging for between 62.5 and 500 h. The microyield point and the microhardness reach a maximum. Formation of y' particles is observed after aging for between 500 and 1000 h. The macroyield stress still slightly increases during particle formation.
