✦ Synopsis

Many of the models for nonideal flow reactors give behavior which lies between the limits of plug flow and continuous stirred tank reactors. Models which fall outside that range include the continuous stirred tank reactor with dead space or channeling, or both.

This paper presents an improved model in which there is mass transfer between the dead space and the active volume. The residence time distribution is derived and the results of this equation are compared with those of the more orthodox model.
