โœฆ Synopsis

A cell-mediated cytotoxicity assay was used to evaluate the specific reactivity of patients with squamous cell carcinoma to an established cell line derived from squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix. Heat inactivated sera from patients with squamous cell carcinoma could very effectively nullify this specific cytotoxicity (P < 0.01). There was no significant difference between the cytotoxic blocking activity of the sera from patients with different stages of the cancer in this experimental setup.

The fragile histidine triad (FHIT) tumor suppressor gene at 3p14.2 has abnormalities in several types of human cancers. To investigate the potential role of FHIT in cervical cancer, which exhibits frequent loss of heterozygosity of 3p, we have examined primary cervical cancer samples from 28 patient

Most cervical carcinomas appear to arise from cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) lesions. In addition to infection with high-risk human papilloma viruses, which is indicative of an increased risk of progression, alterations of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes play a role. Substantial clinical, epidemiologic, and experimental evidence has reinforced the role of high risk human papillomavirus (HPV) types in the development of cervical carcinoma. The authors investigated HPV in the uterine cervix squamous cell carcinomas and adenocarcinomas of Finnish patients. ## METH

Several types of lipoxygenases with various functions occur in mammalian cells. Although the presence of 12-lipoxygenase activity has been reported in uterine tissues, neither its type nor its biological functions have yet been established. Moreover, the putative role of uterine 12-lipoxygenase in c
