โœฆ Synopsis

held at the University of California at Los Angeles on 14-16 August 1962, was attended by more than 1,000 engineers and scientists from industry, universities, and research laboratories. Several delegates from the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and Canada were present. A group of invited and contributed papers, representative of the trends and activities of this rapidly expanding field, were l~resented. Papers from recognized authorities on several topics of current interest were invited to provide 'state of the art' reviews; the subjects included high field superconducting magnets, cryopumping, cryogenic electronics, cryobiology, refrigeration below 1 ยฐ K, and hazards associated with the handling of cryogenic fluids.

A new feature of the conference was a group of seminars on selected topics of current interest in cryogenic engineering. The seminars, guided by recognized leaders in the various fields, stimulated highly spirited and informative discussions. Because of the informal nature of the seminars, their contents will not be included in the conference proceedings. The seminar topics were: Quality Control Instrumentation, Pressurized Transfer,
