✦ Synopsis

We have determined the Kondo temperature and cryslal-field splitting of the new hzavy-fermion compound CePd2AIby thermopower and inelastic neutron scattering. The absence of static, magnetically ordering cerium moments in single crystals is demonstrated by zero-field ta ~ SR. Small deviations of aluminum stoichiomelry yield significant variations of Ty of CePdzAI 3 and 7", of UPd2AI~ in different sampl,'s.

Nine novel title compounds are prepared by arc-melting and characterized by XRD, resistivity, susceptibility, thermoelectric power, and specific heat measurements. All compounds crystallize in the orthorhombic space group Cmcm with Z = 4 (Y2Co3Ga9 type structure). The Ce compounds show a rather unco
