The effect of the iodine intercalation on the structure of high Tc superconducting oxide Bi2Sr2CaCu208 ha.~ been studied by high resolution electron microscopy. The iodine atoms intercalate in between the two Bi-O planes of the Bi202 layers, in a plane Pl perpendicular to the c axis of the unit cell
