โฆ Synopsis
Crystals of (\mathrm{Mn}(\mathrm{II}) \mathrm{Mn}(\mathrm{III}){2} \mathrm{O}\left(\mathrm{SeO}{3}\right){3}) were prepared under lowhydrothermal conditions. The structure was determined by direct and Fourier methods using single-crystal (X)-ray diffraction data up to (\sin \theta / \lambda=0.6 \AA^{-1}) (monoclinic, space group (C 2 / m, Z=4), (a=15.454(4) \AA, b=6.652(2) \AA, c=9.682(2) \AA, \beta=118.83(1)^{\circ}); (R{w}=0.023) for 698 observed reflections]. The structure of (\mathrm{Mn}(\mathrm{II}) \mathrm{Mn}(\mathrm{III}){2} \mathrm{O}\left(\mathrm{SeO}{3}\right){3}) contains three crystallographically different types of (\mathrm{MnO}{6}) octahedra forming ({ }{\infty}^{1} \mathrm{Mn}(\mathrm{II}) \mathrm{O}{4}) chains parallel to ([010]) and ({ }{\infty}^{2} \mathrm{Mn}(\mathrm{III}){2} \mathrm{O}{7}) net-shaped sheets parallel to ( 001 ), which are connected by three types of pyramidal (\mathrm{SeO}{3}) groups as well as by a common oxygen corner. The (\mathrm{Mn}) (III) (\mathrm{O}{6}) octahedra exhibit pronounced Jahn-Teller elongations, whereas a similar distortion of the (\mathrm{Mn}(\mathrm{II}) \mathrm{O}{6}) polyhedron is attributed to interpolyhedral connections. The oxo-oxygen is coordinated to three (\mathrm{Mn}) (III) cations within the (\mathrm{Mn}(11 \mathrm{I}){2} \mathrm{O}{7}) sheets with very short (\mathrm{Mn}-\mathrm{O}) bond lengths. 1994 Academic Press, Inc.
