✦ Synopsis
Single crystals of Pr2_,CexCuO4 were grown using the Cue flux method. Large crystals in which the Ce distribution was homogeneous were grown over a wide range of Ce concentrations. Typical Pr2CuO, and Prt.a6Ceo.14CuO4 single crystals are of 500 × 3 mm 3 and 10X 10X0.1 mm 3, respectively. A small but high quality reduced Pr~.s4Ceo.t6CuO,, crystals show superconductivity with a T¢ of 18 K and a transition width of 1.5 K. We have examined the effects of Pt contamination from the Pt crucible. Only a 1% substitution of Pt for Cu eliminates the superconductivity entirely. Pt suppresses T¢ more quickly in the Pr2_xCe.~CuO4 system than in the La2_~SrxCuO4 system, where a Pt substitution of 2% eliminates the superconductivity.
