β¦ Synopsis
this paper the crack initiation under biaxial loading is studied. The crack extension angle and the critical stress of fracture are determined for various values of the crack inclination angle and for various values of the biaxial factor k. The Det.-criterion, developed by the author, was used. According to the Det.-criterion, the crack propagates in the direction of the maximum value of the determinant of the stress tensor. The Det.-criterion is simpier and more power than other fracture criteria used up to now.

In this paper the crack initiation from blunt notches under biaxial loading is studied. The crack extension angle and the critical fracture stress are determined for notches with finite notch tip radii and for various angles of loading and for various biaxiality factors. The influence of the load applied parallel to the crack on the fracture stress oriented perpendicular to the crack in thin-walled circular cylindrical shells with a longitudinal through slot has been investigated. The shells, made from titanium alloys of two brands and low-carbon steel, were subjec
A procedure based on either ofthe, fracture criteria, i.e. the two-term Sz-criterion (S,) and the T-criterion(T), is proposed to simulate crack initiation and propagation, fiom an initially inclined crack. According to this model the running crack, during its initial stage,,follows a strongly zig-zag
The principle of linear superposition has been employed in studying cracks emanating from a circular hole in a finite sheet under biaxial loading. The series type analytical solulion around the crack tip has been combined with numerical analysis for the purpose of this investigation. The method pres
