โœฆ Synopsis

In this paper the crack initiation from blunt notches under biaxial loading is studied. The crack extension angle and the critical fracture stress are determined for notches with finite notch tip radii and for various angles of loading and for various biaxiality factors. The Det.-criterion, developed by the first author, is used. According to Det.-criterion, the crack propagates in the direction of the maximum value of the determinant of the stress tensor. The Det.-criterion is simpler and more flexible and applicable than the other fracture criteria up to now. e c =---cos-KI p 38 KU e 38 x (2,rrr)"2 2 [ l-sin-sin--p--cos----2 2 I (2~r)"* 2r 2 (27rr)l'2 sin-2 [ 2+cos-cos--I 2 2 KII + (2~r)'/* 2r ----Psin~+~~(1-k)cos2~, KI a,=jqiE cos! 2 [ l+sinBsing 2 2 I + K1 ' cos2+ 2 KII 0 sin -2 0 38 01/2Tr (27rr)"2 cos -2 cos --2 KII p 38 ---sin-(277r)

The principle of linear superposition has been employed in studying cracks emanating from a circular hole in a finite sheet under biaxial loading. The series type analytical solulion around the crack tip has been combined with numerical analysis for the purpose of this investigation. The method pres
