Abstract

Two spin polarized‐band structures of Eu~2~O~2~ with and without considering Coulomb correlation effects are calculated. The exchange potential depending on the fractional spin direction V~ex~(r), locates the 4f bands below the 2p ones, avoiding the 2p‐4f mixing. This fact reduces sensibly the width of the occupied 4f band.
