Ham&t wsubstituent constant is a measure of the effect of the substituent on the activation energy of the reaction of the unsubstituted cowpoundw or it "measures the effect of the substituent on the electron density at the reaction site".' The change in halogenobenzenes nuclear quadrupole resonance (N&R) frequency according to the sort of substituent introduced into a benzene ring shows an effect of the latter on the anisotropy of the halogen atom's electron environment.
