THF) was added [Cp,TiCI,] (2.00 g, 8.03 mmol) in 150 mL of T H F with stirring. After completion of the addition, the mixture was heated to reflux for 48 h. The reaction mixture slowly turned to a deep blue purple. After cooling and filtering, the solvent was evaporated and the residue dissolved in 400 m l of warm loluene. Following further filtration, the solution was reduced to 200 mL and slowly cooled to -78°C to provide purple crystals of 1 (60%); m.p. =212-214"C (dec.).
