Abstract

Ethanethiolesters can be converted into free acids by:

treatment with a mixture of mercuric chloride and mercuric oxide in aqueous acetone (table I),

treatment with benzaldehyde and boron trifluoride in chloroform (table II). The latter procedure probably involves the reactions (1)‐(4).
