A 77-year-old man complains of a rapidly enlarging mass of the left auricle that he first noticed six weeks earlier. Except for some recent oozing from the mass, he denies any other symptoms. In particular, he denies pain or episodes of facial paresis. Examination reveals an exophytic tumor that is
