✦ Synopsis
Abstract
The control problem for a three‐dimensional non‐linear thermoelasticity system is considered. The system may represent, among others, the dynamical model of shape memory materials. As controls we take distributed heat sources and body forces. The goal functional refers to the desired evolution of displacement, strain and temperature.
The continuity and differentiability of solutions with respect to controls is studied. The existence of optimal controls is proved and the necessary optimality conditions are formulated. The existence of adjoint state variables is proved under additional regularity of data. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The goal of the paper is to analyse properties of solutions for linear thermoelastic systems of type III in one space variable. Our approach does not use energy methods, it bases on a special diagonalization procedure which is di erent in di erent parts of the phase space. This procedure allows to d
Various types of sufficient conditions of optimality for non-linear optimal control problems with delays in state and control variables are formulated. The involved functions are not required to be convex. A secondorder sufficient condition is shown to be related to the existence of solutions of a R
## Abstract A new suboptimal control design technique is proposed for a class of cascaded non‐linear systems. The design is based on a forward recursive design rather than a backstepping design, and it utilizes a non‐linear tracker derived using the state‐dependent algebraic Riccati equation approa
In the present paper the modelling and control of a high-Tc superconducting levitation system are discussed. First, the analytical expressions for obtaining the non-linear levitation force, given by the present author, are clarified; and then a vibration control method is presented in which feedback
