β¦ Synopsis
In pamcle filter systems for diesel engines m urban traffic, the regenerataon of the filter by burning off the soot is a problem Changes in the engine operating mode during the regeneratmn make a controlled combustmn of the soot in the fdter difficult Tins paper presents a control concept with process supervtsmn for a filter system with bumer-asszstexl full-flow regeneranon dunng engine operatmn The goal of the control is to keep the mtxed gas temperature m front of the fdter at the desired value by mantpulatmg the amount of fuel rejected into the burner The process supervmon must ensure that the flame m the burner does not go out, as otherwtse unburned fuel will combust m the filter and/or emit as blue smoke, this has to be avmded The controller and the process supervmon are designed based on hnear and nonlinear system tdenttficanon Measurements of the controller performance made on a test engine show a good behawour of the closed loop, even dunng large and rapid vanauons of engine load
