✦ Synopsis
We explore the ability of future Sunyaev-ZelÕdovich cluster surveys to constrain the nature of dark energy. We perform a likelihood analysis and put constraints on a constant and evolving equation of state in the dark energy fluid. We discuss effects of uncertainties in the mass-temperature relation and the importance of priors on other cosmological parameters. We find that first generation SZ surveys with limited sky coverage cannot improve current constraints on a constant equation of state, though deliver a valuable complementary probe. However the south pole telescope (SPT) or the Planck Surveyor can in principle obtain comparable but complementary information to the proposed supernovae acceleration probe (SNAP) even on an evolving equation of state.
