The volatile oil of the roots of Monodora tenuifolia (Benth.) W. Ash (Annonaceae) was analysed by means of gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. A total of 41 components were identified. The major components were two unidentified sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (15.3%) and three indole derivatives: 3-prenylindole (5.6%), 6-prenylindole (4.1%) and an unidentified indole derivative (5.6%). The essential oil contained predominantly sesquiterpenes (33.4%).
