✦ Synopsis

This article proposes a combination of actions and decisions that companies from the Mexico's software services industry can carry out internally to obtain a sustainable competitive level in the national and international markets. An attitudinal survey 1 was carried out as primary research based on a questionnaire administered to companies throughout the country. The results obtained highlight diverse aspects that appear to be restricting the companies' competitiveness. Some of the most important aspects are (a) lack of specialization, (b) the absence of strategy regarding the schema with which they sell the services, (c) the diversity of prices for each kind of service, and (d) the generalized absence of mechanisms for measuring and evaluating the companies' performance. After a prospective analysis, the article points out that the efforts that are carried out to achieve efficiency, flexibility, innovation, and superior assets will be useful for attaining the desired competitiveness in any of three foreseen scenarios.
