โฆ Synopsis
included participants from all three of these committees as well as invited experts on the multiple issues related to breast cancer screening in younger women. The specific conference objectives were to focus on women's issues in breast cancer detection, carry out a critical reappraisal of all available new data on breast cancer detection in younger women, and to update the American Cancer Society and the public on breast cancer detection in younger women.
The first day of the conference was devoted primarily to presentations assessing the efficacy of breast cancer screening in younger women and the possible impact of recent data on advice and guidance that the American Cancer Society provides to the public. The second day dealt with both the progress in and the implementation of breast cancer screening in various populations, some currently unsolved problems in this area, and a variety of legislative issues relating to breast cancer screening. A primary focus of this second day was women's issues in breast cancer detection for younger women and their implications for American Cancer Society programs.
