By no means are all the issues regarding prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN) or pathologic staging or prostatic carcinoma resolved. However, significant progress has been documented in all aspects. In addition, we are provided with an expert opinion as to what needs to be done next. Gratitude was expressed to many of the sponsoring organizations that assure that these proceedings will be considered carefully in all aspects. We are especially grateful for the support this workshop received from the American Cancer Society (ACS), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the Mayo Clinic Foundation. All workgroup reports were discussed and modified to some extent at a general session.
