Synopsis
Ah&act-The conductance of aqueous solutions of [v-phenenyltris(oxyethylene)]tri8[triethylammonium] iodide and trimetaphosphate (SynI8 and SynP800) has been mea8ured at 25ยฐC. For SynI, negative deviation8 from the Onsager limiting law are observed, larger then the ones for IX&, La(NO3, or Na,P,O,. For SynP,O, negative deviation8 are alsO observed, but these are smaller than those for LaFe(CN)o or L&o&N),.
These results indicate that between the Syn*+ cation and the I-anion there is an interaction that is not entirely electrostatic in nature, and which is not present between Syn*+ and PIO18-. A donation of rr electron8 by the benzene ring to the Iion, or a hydrophobic bond between Syn*+ and I-, 8re suggested a8 possible causes of this interaction.
