A~traet--The purpose of the work has been the analysis of the adequacy of lumped models of catalytic combustors by comparison with the more detailed and numerically expensive distributed ones. The study has been performed for steady-state conditions, laminar flow, circular and square channel shape.

Kinetic expressions used to describe the reactions of deactivating catalyst particles are applied here to the sulphation of calcined limestone in a fluidised bed coal comhustor where reactivity diminishes as pores fill with sulphate. Following closely the recent work of Fieldes and Davidson it is sh
A model of coal combustion dynamics in a fluidized bed is developed in this study. The model is carried out on the premise that the total combustion response can be decomposed into two distinct processes: volatile combustion and char combustion. In this investigation, combustion dynamics are examine
Combustion characteristics of a model can-type combustor are reported for inlet temperatures of 315 and 523 K at an air-fuel ratio corresponding to that of takeoff conditions, with gaseous fuel and at near-atmospheric pressure. Temperatures were obtained with fine-wire thermocouples, and concentrati
Drag force influences both the particle suspension and solids concentration distribution in a stirred tank. The influence of drag models on the prediction of solids suspension in a tank stirred by a hydrofoil impeller was studied in the present work using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and exper
