A method for designing the speci"cations of a high-e$ciency water pump was developed by focusing on the mechanisms causing hydraulic loss. Fault tree analysis (FTA) was used as a convenient method for examining the factors related to loss. The e!ects of each factor were quanti"ed by multivariate ana
